How to Find the Best Mower for Your Lawn

Ride on lawn mowers have been around for quite some time now.  I can remember when I was just a little kid and we moved up from the suburbs to a new place that was on acreage.  Being so young at the time, I think from memory I was about 10 years old seeing this big brand-new ride on lawnmower was so cool.

Since that very day of having my first go on it I have never looked back.  You know when you’re living in the city and you have a small block there really is no need for such a big machine.  But when you start moving into the country or you have a house with a large block of land with a bit of acreage, then you are definitely going to need to get yourself a ride on.

So what do you get? There is quite a few different types or should we say styles of ride on mowers available in the marketplace today.  The most basic and cheap ride on mower can be bought from such places as Wal-Mart or Bunnings.  These machines are usually on the lower end of the quality scale and if you don’t have very much grass to take care of these will hold out quite well.  But on the other hand if you do have a fair bit more lawn to mow or if you need to do it every weekend you’re going to need to get a better machine.

I guess the next step up from the residential machine would be to go into the commercial range equipment.  Not only does the quality increase here but also the style of machine, you have more options.

So now you can start looking at what are called zero turn lawn mowers.  These units are my personal favourite because they’re fun to drive and they can really cut down the grass a lot quicker than your standard non-zero turn mower.

The main common one hear is the machine that has the two leavers that you hang on to so that you can steer the machine left or right.  These are pretty much like army tank controls, or skid steer bobcat type controls.

To make the mower go forward you would push both sticks together at once forward. And then to make it go backwards you would pull them backwards together at the same time.  Turning left or right means that you have to push one stick forward and one stick backwards.

These machines that I’m talking about now will usually have the cutting deck underneath your seat or out front underneath your feet.  There will also only be two main driving wheels one on the left side and one on the right side.

There is another type of the zero turn mower that has a steering wheel, an example is one of the Cub Cadet machines.

These machines have the ability to mow a lot more grass per hour per acre than your standard ride on mower.  The ability to turn so sharply means you don’t have to keep going forwards, backwards, forwards, backwards to turn around a corner.

These things simply follow any contour around in the garden edging or around any tree, allowing for maximum cutting time or efficiency.

And finally after of the commercial range of lawnmowers you have the industrial range left.  Here you step up again in quality features and comfort.  Very large cutting widths are now available along with exceptional ground travel speed and cutting speed.  The build quality of these units are the best of the best.  They are literally designed to be run into the ground 24 hour per day. So if you need to mow full on each and every day for contracting or you own a national park these are the class of machine you need to look into.

There are so many different machines in the marketplace today, how are you going to know which one to get.  Which models have larger cutting widths? Which machines can cut more grass per hour? Well you can take a look at this website ride on lawn mowers where we look at a whole range of different types of ride on mowers.

8 Steps to String a Weed Eater

If your weedeater’s string has come off or needs replacing, you will be happy to know that it is an easy procedure to replace it. Your manual will have the specific instructions on your particular brand and model so be to follow that and use us as a supplementary guide. You will need a new weed eater rated cord or string, your weed eater and possibly an oil wrench or specific tool that came with your device.

1. Of course the first thing you should do is make sure the weed eater is de-energized by removing any power sources and pressing the trigger to ensure it is not going to turn on while you’re working on it. Another reason is any energy that is stored inside will be discharged and not give you an unpleasant shock.

2. This is a good time to clean it up. Make sure any grass and debris is removed from the whipping chamber.

3. The spool itself will have some locks and you will have to push on the spool and flip the locks to release the spool itself. After that, carefully remove the spool from its housing.

4. Remove any old line and debris. Next you will feed in the new line. It is kind of like sewing a button on a shirt if you have ever done that. You don’t need to tie off the line inside because it will be secured by the internal locking device.

5. Now you can wrap the trimmer line in the direction of the arrows. You will notice two groves and instruction where the line is to be sitting.

6. Now you can place the spool back in the weed eater chamber and ensure that the trimmer line is fed through and coming out of both sides of the spool. You will hear a snap when the spool is locked in to place properly.

7. Once the spool is in place you will need to pull on both ends of the trimmer line at the same time. This will again ensure it is locked and properly seated. If your weed eater has a locking ring it will need to be replaced now as well.

8. The last thing is to test it. Before you go out with guns a blazing, it is important to start slow. Make sure you are wearing the proper safety equipment and start the trimmer off slowly. If something seems off or smoke develops, turn it off immediately. If everyone looks okay, then you can try it full power. Also try varying the speeds. Your next test will involve actually cutting some grass or debris. Again if all goes well, then you are set.

That’s all there is to it. Replacing a weed eater string is simple and will give you the performance you need when cleaning up your yard. Remember to work safe!
